Arsenal transfer news.
The Gunners have had their eye on the Portugal international for some time, but will have to act quickly to secure his signature with great rivals Manchester United also interested.
It’s been widely considered that one of the key things Wenger is missing from his squad is a decent holding player to compliment the more attacking figures in midfield.
Now it seems the Frenchman himself has also identified that same problem and is ready to plunge the club’s funds into addressing that when the window opens on New Year’s Day.
Carvalho is an appealing option as the 22-year-old operates in front of the back four for both Sporting and the Portuguese national team.
Also his age means that he is a prospect for the future as well and it would be easy to see the player working alongside the likes of Aaron Ramsey or Jack Wilshere in the middle of the park.
Carvalho broke into the Sporting first team back in 2011 and to date has played 54 times for the Primeira Liga side and also has nine international caps.
