The German international has long been touted as one of the Red Devils’ top defensive targets, and with Dortmund currently bottom of the league in Germany, it had been speculated that he could move during the middle of the season.

United have been linked with a £35m move for the talented 26-year-old, but latest comments from his father suggest that the possibility of a move this January is unlikely, meaning that Louis van Gaal will likely have to wait until the summer to land his top target.

There is nothing to it,” his father said when asked about a January move.

It remains to be seen if United will move on to other defensive targets to strengthen at the back or if van Gaal will be happy to wait until the summer to rekindle his interest in Hummels.
