Arsenal Star Demands Central Role At The Emirates

Arsenal’s Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla has implored Arsene Wenger to continue deploying him centrally at the Emirates…

Santi Cazorla has been in fantastic form for Arsenal over the last few weeks, and has been reveling in his central role at the club. The Spaniard has chipped in with a number of goals and assists recently, and hopes to be given the chance to continue this fine vein of form, according to the Daily Star.

Cazorla really hit the ground running when he joined Arsenal from Malaga in 2012, and even clinched the Player of the Season award. He has struggled to recapture that form however, and is only now beginning to show what he is capable of once again.

The 30-year-old has thrived in the absence of German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil, who has been out with a knee injury for months. Both players favour the No.10 role, and both players excel when given the space to manoeuvre in.

Arsene Wenger has regularly tried to force the creative pair into the team simultaneously, which has often resulted in the form of one or both men suffering. Cazorla hopes that the return of Ozil will not see him pushed out wide, and wants the French manager to keep faith with him in midfield.

“I have more space [in the middle], more possibilities to score and assist, and I like this position very much,” he said.

“I always can help the team and I love when I play in the middle.

“I want to continue to play at this level for the rest of the season. I always want to help the team with goals.

“I hope to score more until the end of the season. It’s very important for me and the team.”
