The Colombian striker made headlines on Sunday, when he didn’t even make the bench for United’s home defeat by Southampton, despite being fully fit. Manager Louis van Gaal called it a ‘tactical’ decision, but it was one that attracted plenty of criticism.
Reports in the Daily Mail confirm that Van Persie was forced off at Old Trafford, and is unlikely to make the trip to Loftus Road. The Dutchman missed the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday as he underwent scans, and while tests revealed no serious damage, he could need a break.
That news will come as a boost to Falcao as he attempts to convince his United employers to turn his loan move from AS Monaco into a permanent one. Untied have the option of signing him for £52m next summer, but he’s only scored three times so far this season.
