Speculation has been rife that the world’s most expensive player has seen his relationship with the three time Ballon d’Or winner start to diminish.

Gossip has been fuelled by Bale’s recent refusal to pass to the better-positioned Ronaldo in Saturday’s 3-0 league victory over Espanyol – drawing boos from the Real faithful.

However, Clement has stated that there is no truth in the speculation – insisting that the rumours have merely been overhyped in the media.

The English coach also echoed Ronaldo’s recent comments, stating that the Welsh galactico remains a key player for the Spanish giants.

In an interview with Drivetime, Clement said:

“There’s only a five-year difference between them but Cristiano has definitely helped Gareth and taken him under his wing to a certain degree, and that’s helped him achieve what he’s achieve so far here at Madrid.”
