The 26-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements by Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal and the player’s representatives have been in discussions with the club about cancelling his contract.

It will signal quite the fall from grace for Anderson when he finally does leave Old Trafford, having failed to live up to expectations since a £26m transfer from FC Porto back in 2007.

At the time the Brazilian was considered one of the best young players in the world having been given the prestigious Golden Boy award previously won by the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Yet at United things never quite worked out for the South American, which culminated in van Gaal’s predecessor David Moyes sending Anderson on-loan to Fiorentina with a view to a permanent move last season.

However, the Serie A club decided they did not want the midfielder and he therefore returned to the Theatre of Dreams in time for the change of management and has since struggled for game time.

It’s clear just how little regard van Gaal has for Anderson by the fact he has made just two appearances for Man United in 2014/15 – the 4-0 Capital One Cup humiliation to MK Dons and the Premier League draw with Burnley.

He will sign a £25,000-a-week contract with Internacional – after tax – and have a £650,000 annual bonus.
