Kevin De Bruyne has also been targeted by both Manchester United and Manchester City…

Chelsea are planning a shock swoop on Wolfsburg for former player Kevin De Bruyne, and are hopeful of re-signing the Belgian international during the summer transfer window, reports the Daily Express.

Manchester United and Manchester City are also interested in the 23-year-old, who managed just three Premier League appearances for the Blues between 2012 and 2014, before being sold by Jose Mourinho last January.

Wolfsburg paid £18m for De Bruyne, who has been a huge hit at the German club, scoring 12 goals and providing 20 assists in just 45 appearances – leading his new side to second place in the Bundesliga and a famous 4-1 win over leaders Bayern Munich.

Chelsea have re-signed a former player in the past, having splashed the cash to take Nemanja Matic back to Stamford Bridge from Benfica early last year. De Bruyne is now valued at close to £30m, but the source suggests that’s a fee Mourinho would be willing to spend.

The Blues are on good terms with Wolfsburg, who signed Andre Schurrle from Chelsea on transfer deadline day, but they were keen to talk down any suggestions of the switch coming to fruition.

Sporting director Klaus Allofs said: “Kevin is still tied to 2019. But if a player develops extraordinary, it may be that we sit down together and see the conditions.”
