Louis van Gaal wants to tie down the player to Old Trafford…
Manchester United have started contract talks with winger Ashley Young, reports the Daily Express.
The 29-year-old has still got another year left on his contract, but the United hierarchy are keen to extend his deal after impressive form this season. He has become a regular at wing-back in manager Louis van Gaal’s prefered 3-5-2 formation. This is surprising considering he has never been known for his defensive work prior to the current campaign.
The former England international has made 13 appearances for the Red Devils this season as they look to return to the Champions League at the first time of asking. They are currently in the top four, but are expected to have to withstand strong challenges from Arsenal, Tottenham, and Liverpool to stay there.
Young could play a part in the Mancunian side’s FA Cup clash against Preston after returning from a hamstring injury.
