Arsene Wenger and Louis van Gaal have been scrapping over a Barcelona star…
Arsenal are looking to beat Manchester United to the signing of Barcelona defender Dani Alves, according to the Metro.
The Brazilian’s contract is ending in the summer, and it looks unlikely that he will be signing an extension to stay at the Nou Camp. With no transfer fee involved in the deal it means that bidding has passed on to the right-back’s contract.
With this in mind the Gunners are looking to offer the 31-year-old a higher weekly wage than their Old Trafford rivals. It is possible for the defender to make a decision on his future at any time, but he can not arrive at a new club until the end of the season.
The transfer is complicated by Barca’s current transfer ban. As they are not able to bring in any replacements for what is one of their key players they may try even harder to entice him to stay in Catalonia.
