A head-to-head battle between the Premier League giants to ensue.
Southampton contract-rebel Nathaniel Clyne is a major transfer target for Manchester United, however title-leaders Chelsea have joined the race for the defender’s signature, according to the Mirror.
Clyne has just 18 months remaining on his current contract with the Saints, and his stalling on signing a new extension could signal his desire to move on from the club in the summer.
The in-demand England right back is a top summer target for Louis van Gaal, and could mirror the footsteps of former Southampton star Luke Shaw, who made a huge £30m move to Old Trafford last July.
The Saints, however, will have to fend off interest from Chelsea who are considering a move for the 23-year-old so as to improve the number of home-grown players at Stamford Bridge.
The ball is certainly in Clyne’s court over which club his future lies with.
