Understandably Villa fans were delighted at the result, and affect Sherwood seems to be having, though their attempted pitch invasion before the final whistle did not go down well with captain Fabian Delph.

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson was far from impressed with the scenes from the Aston Villa fans, saying ,”Why would you do this? You’re winning, absolutely stupid. Loads of villages have lost their idiots tonight. Absolutely bonkers.

“It’s like a scene from the 1980s all over again. Absolutely ridiculous.”

The FA Cup semi-final draw will be made on Monday evening, prior to Manchester United’s home quarter-final tie against Arsenal.
