Agbonlahor was pivotal during Villa’s 2-1 win over neighbours West Brom on Tuesday, scoring the first goal of the night to help lift the club out of the relegation zone.
The Birmingham-born forward burst onto the scene over a decade ago, but has seen his goal tally dwindle significantly over the years despite being the club’s record goal scorer in the Premier League.
And now Sherwood has revealed that he has had a series of talks with the 28-year-old in order to learn what makes him tick.
“I’ve been trying to watch videos of all the games this season, but there’s probably 40-hours worth,” he said.
“I’ve had to watch them on fast speed. You should see how quick Gabby is on those!
“When I was at Tottenham, we had three defenders to look after the counter-threat of Agbonlahor, so I did identify him as someone to tap into – absolutely.”
