Stephanie Roche went from being practically unknown, to one of the biggest names in women’s football after scoring an incredible goal for Peamount United. The strike was so good that she was nominated for the Ferenc Puskas Award for goal of the year, a title she narrowly lost out on as James Rodriguez won for his strike in last year’s World Cup. But now, the Republic of Ireland international has entered a contender for this year’s award.

The 25-year-old’s latest stunner came in an international match against Costa Rica, where he flicks the ball up, and lobs it over the helpless keeper, coincidentally mirroring Rodriguez’s strike that denied Roche the award.
