The former Leeds man has only recently signed a new deal with Tim Sherwood’s side, however United are keen to add the 25-year-old to their squad ahead of next season.

Coincidentally, the news comes moments after Louis van Gaal’s team defeated a Villa side – including Delph – 3-1 at Old Trafford, thanks to a brace from Ander Herrera and another from captain Wayne Rooney.

Delph, a tough-tackling midfielder whose Premier League career has been slightly overshadowed by a large amount of yellow cards, has made twenty appearances in the top flight this campaign, and has seemingly been inspired by the arrival of the former Tottenham boss, Sherwood.

If a bid does materialise, then it may prove bad news for Delph’s teammate, Tom Cleverley. The 25-year-old is currently on loan from Manchester United, and if van Gaal does add another midfield option, it may prove the end of Cleverley’s time at the club he joined as a youngster fifteen years ago.
