Metz gave themselves feint hope of beating the drop with a 3-2 win over their relegation rivals, but ensured that the misery continues for Dominique Arribage’s outfit.

It was Toulouse who took the lead when Wissam Ben Yedder finished from close range after an explosive counter attack. For a moment it looked as though Le TFC were flying and were going to build on their fine victory over local rivals Girondins de Bordeaux a fortnight ago.

However, their joy wasn’t to last.

On-loan West Ham United forward Modibo Maiga equalised only three minutes after Ben Yedder’s opener, before adding a powerful second just before halftime.

While Arribage doubtless had some rousing words for his embattled team at the break, it was Metz—buoyed by the supporters at the Stade Saint-Symphorien—who stuck again.

Maiga hit his third on 54 minutes when making the most of sloppy defending.

Marcel Tisserand was dismissed after a second yellow on the hour mark, and while Les Roses did respond through Tongo Doumbia in the final minute, they ran out of time to find an equaliser.
