(Video) Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista visits former side Villarreal after FA Cup semi-final win

Arsenal defender Gabriel took the time to travel back to Spain and visit his old side Villarreal as they took on Cordoba in La Liga following his recent move to north London.

The defender signed for Arsenal in January for a fee to be believed £11.2m (via BBC Sport) and was brought on in the second half of Arsenal’s FA Cup semi-final win against Reading on Saturday.

Per Mertesacker’s injury handed the Brazilian his chance and judging by Arsene Wenger’s post-match comments, Gabriel will be needed long-term as Arsenal’s vice-captain left the pitch in a protective boot.

Wenger started the season with just two recognised central defenders and his refusal to strengthen the back four has essentially cost the Gunners the Premier League title.

Gabriel’s arrival has boosted the squad and Wenger is now able to call upon four players to fill the central defensive positions.
