The Red Devils are known to be long-time admirers of the 24-year-old, who has been a stand-out performer at the St Mary’s Stadium this season, improving tremendously to look like one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.
Clyne has also become an England regular in the last few months, and would no doubt fit in well at Old Trafford, particularly in Louis van Gaal’s system of using wing-backs.
According to the Independent, Chelsea have also been chasing the defender ahead of the summer transfer window, despite already having the excellent Branislav Ivanovic to choose from in that position.
Still, it may be that the increased probability of first-team football will influence Clyne’s decision as he appears to near a move to United, following on from their signing of PSV forward Memphis Depay.
