The Metro believe that Manchester United are set to sign Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne in the next couple of days.
The England international has been a part of the second meanest defence in the Premier League this season, conceding just 28 times in the 35 matches so far.
The defender has only missed three of those games, and has also picked up two goals along the way for the South Coast club.
The 24-year-old could be the Red Devils’ second signing after they announced that they had agreed terms with PSV Eindhoven and Memphis Depay to bring the Dutchman to Old Trafford.
With Antonio Valencia not at his best at right-back this season and Rafael seemingly unable to get in to the side, it is key United strengthen the area.
Getting in another key signing early will also be good for manager Louis van Gaal, who will then be able to bed in Clyne and Depay during pre-season. Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward seems to be learning on the job to do this after waiting until late in previous transfer windows to sign Radamel Falcao and Marouane Fellaini, both of whom had poor first campaigns.
