Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are all interested in signing Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze, reports the Daily Express.
The Bundesliga champions may be willing to let the 22-year-old go in the summer after a disappointing season. The midfielder has nine goals and two assists in 30 top flight appearances, which isn’t what the Allianz Arena hierarchy were expecting when he signed for £30 million from fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund back in 2013.
This has led to former Bayern star Dietmar Hamann thinking that the midfielder will be leaving the Bavarian club in the summer. The Premier League trio are apparently interested in the youngster, who still has time to make good on the unbelievable potential he displayed at BVB with ten goals and nine assists in 28 league appearances in 2012/13.
Hamann said: “Mario Gotze is badly out of form and Bayern Munich are highly likely to sell him. He’s not happy at the club, and the club aren’t happy with him. When that’s the case it’s better all round to have a parting of the ways.
“Bayern will want to get back roughly what they paid for Gotze but whether anyone is willing to cop a £30m fee is another matter. There has been talk of a swap with Manchester United for Angel Di Maria. Whether that is likely I don’t know, but Di Maria is the type of player Bayern need, and they have to bring in players of his calibre.”
Munich may want Angel Di Maria because of their ageing squad. They could need a winger in the near future with Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery both the wrong side of 30, and both such key parts of the team.
