Vitoria Guimaraes star Bernard Mensah has confirmed that Manchester United are in talks with the club to sign him, reports the Daily Star.
The Ghanaian has scored four times in 20 appearances this season for the Primeira Liga side, which seems to have been enough to attract the interest of the Red Devils. This is surprising considering he isn’t setting the league alight at his current club and is already 20-years-old.
However, apparently manager Louis van Gaal is an admirer of the midfielder. Mensah would have to compete with Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Daley Blind, and Juan Mata for a position in the side if he were to sign for the Old Trafford outfit.
Despite the unusual nature of this move United seem to be pressing on. The player revealed: “It is true that Manchester United want me. I have not spoken with anyone at Manchester United but I know that there are negotiations with my club.”
With the summer only just starting the Red Devils have already announced that they have agreed terms with PSV Eindhoven and Memphis Depay for the Dutchman’s signature, and this could be their second move in to the transfer market.
