Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal believes that Arsenal are the best team in the Premier League but lack Chelsea’s killer instinct, reports the Daily Express.
The Gunners are currently third in the division after a shock defeat to Swansea City last Monday left their chances of finishing second in tatters. Meanwhile the Stamford Bridge outfit have already been crowned champions of the division, and are 14 points clear of their North London rivals with just two games left in the campaign.
Despite this, when asked if his team had a winning mentality, van Gaal said: “No because we are not champions and I think that’s a quality of the champion. Of course we have improved a lot but the way in which Chelsea can play and finish the games is something we have to learn still because that’s the big difference now with Chelsea.
“I also think Arsenal maybe have a better team than Chelsea, but they cannot finish like Chelsea. That’s also about talent and experience – John Terry and Gary Cahill. It’s different I think.”
The Red Devils pay Arsenal on Sunday knowing a win will mean they leap frog Arsene Wenger’s men in to third. However, the Emirates outfit have a game in hand against relegation battlers Sunderland, so in all likelihood it is Louis van Gaal who will have to contend with playing a Champions League qualifying tie next season.
Even with this United will still be gunning for a victory that would be a statement of intent before an expected tilt at the top flight title in the next campaign. Also, after seeing their nine year undefeated run against Arsenal at Old Trafford finished in April by former player Danny Welbeck, the Red Devils will surely want to bounce back with a win against their old rivals.
