According to El Comercio, the surgery involved removing the pins that were placed in Valencia’s left leg in 2010.

The player spoke to Gustavo Quintero, the Ecuador national team manager, many times but forgot to mention the surgery until last Monday.

Valencia’s recovery will take a approximately 15 days meaning he will miss the next Copa America in Chile, but should it not interfere with Manchester United pre-season plans and their tour in the USA.

Valencia, 29, started his career in 2003 with Nacional and in 2005 moved to Spain to play with Villarreal. He played in the Premier League for the first time in 2006 with Wigan Athletic and since 2009 he has been part of the first team at Manchester United.
