Manchester United news
Manchester United are reportedly on alert as Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan looks certain to leave Spain in this summer’s transfer window, according to Italian source Gazzetta dello Sport.
A follow-up report in today’s Daily Mirror suggests United are the favourites to snap up the Turkish international, though, elsewhere, The Sun claims Chelsea are also in the running to win the race for his signature this summer, in what could be a potential swap deal involving Blues left-back Filipe Luis.
Turan has long been regarded as one of Atletico’s most important players, and indeed one of the top attacking midfielders in Europe. With a record of 22 goals and 32 assists since he joined the Spanish side in the 2011/12 season, it is easy to see why he is the subject of so much interest.
The 28-year-old also contributed greatly to helping Atletico to the La Liga title in 2013/14, plus also playing a crucial role in guiding them to the final of the Champions League, scoring against Chelsea in the semi-final before the club eventually lost to city rivals Real in Lisbon.
United may have already signed Memphis Depay this summer, adding to the likes of Angel Di Maria and Juan Mata in the attacking midfield department, but Turan could be another welcome addition to the side as they look to improve on last season and mount a more serious challenge for the Premier League title.
The Daily Mail claims that Nani is also heading for the exit at Old Trafford this summer as he nears a move to Fenerbahce, which could open up a space for Turan in Louis van Gaal’s side, while others such as Adnan Januzaj and Ashley Young are perhaps not as suitable long-term options for the club.
