The 25-year-old was part of a defence that conceded just 26 goals in Ligue 1 and five in ten Champions League games last season. As a result Barcelona and Juventus are also keen on the centre-back according to the Metro, but surprisingly it is the mid-table Premier League side that are in the lead to sign him.

However, the principality-based side have rejected the Hammers’ bid.

They are still open to selling the player, reported the Metro, but seem to be keen to get more for the player who made 26 appearances for them in the last campaign. With so many illustrious clubs interested in his signature, it could be that manager Leonardo Jardim believes he can prompt a bidding war for the Tunisia international.

New Irons boss Slaven Bilic is looking to bring in the defender as he attempts to compete on four fronts this season. The East London club qualified for the Europa League through the Fair Play league last time round, and their campaign has already started with a 3-0 win over the Lusitanos in the first leg of their third qualifying round tie for the competition as a result.

Meanwhile, their Premier League rivals Liverpool are also keen on Abdennour to use as part of their error-prone back line. The Reds suffered thanks to defensive mistakes and an inability to score freely last time round, ending up in sixth in the Premier League.
