Man United expected to offload right-back to Serie A before transfer deadline

Guillermo Varela was believed to be on the verge of making a transfer move to Genoa several days ago, but various delays bordering on excuses by Manchester United prevented the move from happening. However, with only hours remaining on the January transfer window, the Serie A outfit still believe they can secure a deal for the Red Devils’ right-back.

According to the Daily Star, numerous Italian news sources are stating that Man United are ready to finally green-light a deal for the 22-year-old Uruguayan and that Genoa are confident a deal can be done before the deadline.

Among the many reports regarding Varela in the waning hours of the transfer window was the news that Varela’s agent has personally flown in to England to secure a move for his client.

In addition, while one source reported that the move will be a £460,000 loan deal, another added that Genoa are trying to add in an option for a permanent deal in the summer for £2.3 million.

Varela has appeared four times for Man United this season after spending most of last season on loan.
