Man United midfielder sent for scan after injury blow

Manchester United looked set to welcome back Bastian Schweinsteiger after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but he’s now back on the injured list after missing training with Germany, as reported by Goal.

The German international has struggled for fitness this season, and really hasn’t made the impact many Manchester united fans were hoping for. His latest injury is yet to be fully assessed, but the seriousness should be determined following the MRI scan he’s set to undergo.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder looks at the very least set to miss this round of international friendlies, having been flown to Munich for his scans. This weekend’s game against England is almost certainly out of the question, and it seems a strong possibility that he’ll miss the clash with Italy too.

United are looking to break into the top four once again, finishing a very average season on a high. They got a morale boosting derby win over Manchester City last weekend, and will now be far more confident in their ability to clinch a Champions League spot.

City currently still hold that coveted fourth spot on 51 points, but with both West Ham and Manchester United on 50 it’s unquestionably up for grabs. It would obviously be a boost to have Schweinsteiger back, but they’ve obviously gotten used to doing without him.

As far as Germany are concerned, Schweinsteiger isn’t the only injury concern ahead of their clash with England. Goal reports that Arsenal’s Mesut Özil and Bayer Leverkusen wide-man Karim Bellarabi are also doubts for England, although neither injury seems hugely serious. Roy Hodgson will be pleased to hear a couple of Germany’s key men are missing, but England will still have a mountain to climb to overcome their bitter rivals.
