Arsenal transfer news: Wenger opens talks for unsettled £20m prolific frontman

Arsenal are reportedly in talks with AC Milan over the £20m signing of striker Carlos Bacca with a view of taking him to north London in January.

Injuries have taken their toll on the Gunners, with Olivier Giroud, Lucas Perez and Danny Welbeck all suffering with setbacks so far this season.

That in turn has put pressure on Arsene Wenger and Alexis Sanchez to continue playing the Chilean up front and delivering goals, but as seen against West Ham United on Saturday, it’s working out pretty well.

Nevertheless, according to The Sun, the French tactician could be ready to splash out to add firepower to his squad with Bacca now seemingly his top target and a £20m bid has been touted.

The 30-year-old has an impressive goalscoring record since moving to Serie A last year, but after picking up an injury and opting to travel to Spain to watch former club Sevilla last weekend rather than travel with his Milan teammates to Empoli, he is coming under heavy scrutiny.

As a result, the Rossoneri may choose to sell in order to raise transfer funds of their own to strengthen Vincenzo Montella’s squad in January, as they look to secure a top-three finish in the Italian top flight this season and return to the Champions League.

With Gianluca Lapadula grabbing his chance for Milan with a brace last weekend in the win over Empoli, it’s making it an easier decision for the club to consider selling Bacca.

As for Arsenal, it would make sense as the prolific striker, who thrives in the box and is a world-class finisher, could flourish with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Sanchez playing around him and creating opportunities.

It remains to be seen whether or not a move goes through, but it does appear as though the transfer would make sense for both parties.
