Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has provided an update on his contract situation that seems likely to infuriate a large number of the club’s supporters.

The England international, who is out of contract at the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season, has revealed he’s yet to hear from Arsene Wenger about extending his stay with the club.

Given that Wilshere has looked back to his best whenever used this season, albeit sparingly, fans will surely feel he’s worth keeping on as he looks like getting over the worst of his injury problems.

Granit Xhaka also doesn’t look much of an alternative after struggling to settle in the Premier League, and it’s not clear what is behind the hold-up from Wenger.

Wilshere, 25, says he’s happy after getting more action in the Premier League, and says he believes talks will happen when the time is right.

‘There’s not really a date in the diary (for contract talks),’ Wilshere is quoted in the Telegraph.

‘Nothing’s changed. We were in the same position as we were. I’ve only read what the manager’s said in the media.

‘I’ve just played my first game in the Premier League, I’m concentrating on staying fit and staying in this team. That will look after itself.

‘When it’s the right time to talk about it, I’m sure the boss will call me and we’ll have a chat.’

Wilshere spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and looks to have benefited from a year of playing more regularly after previously falling out of favour at Arsenal.
