Barcelona set deadline for top target to address key area of Valverde’s squad

Barcelona will reportedly wait until the end of this week for Paris Saint-Germain ace Adrien Rabiot before potentially moving on to other targets.

The Catalan giants have seen both Andres Iniesta and Paulinho leave the Nou Camp this summer, although they did bring in Brazilian youngster Arthur to bolster that area of the squad.

Nevertheless, it still potentially leaves them short in midfield if they wish to compete on multiple fronts next season, as Arthur will also need time to adjust to the European game and Barca’s style of play after his move from Gremio.

With that in mind, the La Liga champions have long been paired with an interest in Rabiot, but Sport now claim that they will wait until the end of this week to get a definitive answer from the Frenchman before either proceeding with a deal or looking elsewhere.

Ultimately, it would appear as though it comes down to whether or not Rabiot is prepared to leave a year before his contract ends with the Parisian giants, or if he will sign a renewal which is being touted as a possibility in the report.

Either way, Barcelona are being sensible in their approach as if a deal doesn’t appear likely this week, then they must consider alternatives in order to avoid being left short when the window closes and Rabiot is perhaps still a PSG player.

Given the technical quality, vision and creativity that he possesses, the silky midfield ace would arguably fit in perfectly at the Nou Camp, and so it’s no surprise that Barcelona are said to be interested.

However, time will tell if that results in a match up this summer, or if he commits his future to PSG with the hope of being a fundamental figure for them moving forward.
