Man Utd launch last-minute swoop for €40m-rated classy midfield ace

Despite Jose Mourinho conceding that he wasn’t confident of more Man Utd signings on deadline day, reports claim the Red Devils have launched a late bid for Adrien Rabiot.

As per BBC Sport, the Portuguese tactician all-but suggested that there would be no more incomings at Old Trafford before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

United have brought in Lee Grant, Diogo Dalot and Fred this summer, but for a side which finished 19 points adrift of champions Man City last season coupled with their inability to win a trophy, much more is arguably needed.

According to Calciomercato, via Paris United, it’s been claimed that the Premier League giants have made a very late attempt to prise Rabiot away from the French capital.

The 23-year-old’s current contract expires next summer, and so question marks have naturally been raised over his long-term future with the Ligue 1 champions.

A technically gifted and classy midfield player, the Frenchman could certainly add a different dynamic in midfield for Man Utd and offer more creativity alongside the likes of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Fred.

However, with just hours remaining before the deadline passes for English clubs, it remains to be seen whether or not United can reach an agreement with PSG and with the player in time.

AS reported earlier this summer that PSG would demand a fee of around €40m for Rabiot if they were forced to sell. It appears as though they have fended off interest, but a late raid from Man Utd could change that despite Mourinho seemingly being intent on strengthening his backline as a priority.

As noted by Sky Sports, Diego Godin was the latest defender to be paired with a move to Old Trafford, but that doesn’t appear likely to go through.
