Arsenal transfer news: Midfield reshuffle, exit touted as Unai Emery eyes reunion

Arsenal could reportedly offload Mohamed Elneny this month while it’s also claimed that Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot is on their transfer radar.

The Gunners endured a disappointing start to the new Premier League campaign after falling to a 2-0 defeat to reigning champions Man City at the Emirates on Sunday.

In turn, what that game arguably displayed was that Unai Emery still has work to do to transform them into a side that can compete at the highest level, as the performance didn’t look too dissimilar to what was seen under former boss Arsene Wenger last season.

Emery was busy this past summer, with his midfield an area he addressed with the signings of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi, both of whom made their competitive debuts at the weekend.

One man who didn’t feature in that game against City was Elneny, and according to The Mirror, the Egyptian international could be on his way out of the Emirates with Marseille linked with making a move as the transfer window is still open in France.

On one hand, it’s understandable for both parties as to why Elneny leaving makes sense, as he’ll want regular first-team football. Given Arsenal are competing on multiple fronts this season though, there is perhaps an argument that the Gunners should be careful not to lose key depth either.

Nevertheless, The Mirror also report that Emery could be lining up a swoop for Rabiot next year to secure a reunion after the pair worked together during his previous stint in charge of Paris Saint-Germain.

Perhaps the same argument as above applies in terms of competition for places which may put the French international off a move to north London, but given his technical quality, experience and winning pedigree, he arguably should walk straight into the Arsenal team.

However, with his PSG future still to be sorted out given his current contract expires next summer, it remains to be seen if Emery gets a chance to link up with him again.
