Report: Real Madrid monitor Man United starlet after transfer request

Real Madrid Man United flags

Manchester United are facing a serious battle to keep JJ Gabriel, with Real Madrid now reportedly among the European giants circling the highly-rated teenager.

Gabriel is only 15, but his reputation has already spread well beyond England.

Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also tracking him, while reports in Spain claim the youngster has made it clear he wants to leave United.

That has turned what was already an awkward academy situation into one of the more intriguing youth-transfer stories in Europe.

Real Madrid monitoring Gabriel as Barcelona and Bayern circle

According to AS, Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Gabriel after being alerted to his situation at Old Trafford.

The Spanish newspaper claims the youngster has requested a transfer, with Bayern Munich seen as one of the strongest rivals for his signature.

Barcelona are also said to have stepped up their interest in recent days.

United, understandably, are not taking the situation lightly. The club are reported to have warned that they could take legal action against any side they believe negotiates improperly with Gabriel while he remains tied to their academy setup.

Given his age, the situation is also more complicated than a normal senior transfer.

FIFA rules heavily restrict international transfers involving players under 18, so any eventual move would need to comply with strict regulations.

Man United have every reason to fight hard to keep Gabriel

From United’s point of view, losing Gabriel would sting.

He is viewed as one of the standout players in the club’s academy and has already attracted major attention despite being years away from what would normally be considered a senior peak.

A report from The Athletic has previously highlighted how aggressively Europe’s biggest clubs now scout elite academy talent before players even establish themselves at first-team level, and Gabriel fits that trend perfectly.

There is also a wider issue here. United have always taken pride in giving young players a pathway, so seeing a teenager push for an exit raises obvious questions about how convinced he is by that route.

Still, interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern does not mean a move is close. At this stage, it is more a tug-of-war over future potential than a normal transfer.

United’s priority will be simple: convince Gabriel that his best route to senior football is still at Old Trafford before Europe’s heavyweights can turn interest into something more concrete.
