Swansea City front man Michu is likely to be out of action for as long as four weeks with an ankle injury that the forward picked up in the Swans’ 1-0 loss at rivals Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The influential Spain international had to be substituted midway through the second half against the Bluebirds, and now Swansea head coach Michael Laudrup has confirmed that the prolific 27-year-old is currently suffering from problems to his ankle, as well as both his knees/

As a result, Michu will definitely miss the South Welsh club’s UEFA Europa League Group A fixture against Kuban Krasnodar on Thursday night, and the next four weeks of the season too as the striker undergoes rehabilitation back home in Spain.

“It is not about excuses but explanations and some players have not been at their best. Michu was our top scorer last season but has been struggling – he has not been 100 per cent (fit) and now he is out for three or four weeks,” said Laudrup.

“Both knees for many weeks (have caused him problems) but he wanted to play anyway. He is one of our most important players. Hopefully while he is out with his ankle injury his knees can recover.

“You never know. We said Ben Davies would be out for four weeks and he is back sooner.”
