Premier League champions in talks over United target.
Manchester City have held talks with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid over a possible £47m move for Spanish playmaker Koke, according to the Daily Star.
The 22-year-old is one of the most highly rated young players in the world at the moment, and was in superb form to help Diego Simeone’s side to the title last season, as well as to the Champions League final.
Koke’s fine form has also seen him strongly linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United in recent times, but City are now stepping up their efforts to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.
City supposedly see Koke as a long-term replacement for Yaya Toure in the middle of the park, with his eye for goal and defence-splitting pass making him a superb prospect.
It remains to be seen if the likes of Chelsea and United will now step up their interest in the player as well, but it seems likely that City are prepared to meet his release clause and have met with Atletico to work on a deal.
