FC Metz remain bottom of the pile after missing out on another chance of victory with a 0-0 draw away at the Stade Malherbe Caen.
Objectively, a point away at Caen isn’t a dreadful result in Ligue 1, but considering Metz’s plight at the bottom of the division, Albert Cartier’s side desperately needed a victory from this fixture.
With only eight games left to play, the Northern club remain propping up the division, having managed only 23 points from 30 matches. Following Saturday’s action they remain 11 points of safety and any hopes of an unlikely survival appear to be slipping away.
Caen too will count this as an opportunity missed. The Normandy outfit aren’t out of the woods themselves and following Toulouse’s victory, move to within three points of the drop.
Both sides had chances to win this one.
Herve Bazile went close for the home side, while Ahmed Kashi was nearly Metz’s hero with this late, ferocious drive.
