Arsenal ready to spend £45m to sign ‘final piece of the jigsaw’: £150k a week contract discussed

Arsenal continue to pursue Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema with the Daily Mail claiming that Arsene Wenger is ready to dig deep to land a player who the Gunners boss considers the ‘final piece’ of his jigsaw.

27-year-old Bernabeu star Benzema has been a consistent goal-scorer since moving to the Spanish capital and could offer Wenger a far more prolific spearhead to his Arsenal attack than current first-choice starter Olivier Giroud.

The Daily Mail believe Arsenal are not only ready to break their club transfer record to secure Benzema, but that they are also willing to make the former Lyon man their highest-paid player with a £150k a week contract being offered to the French international.

Benzema was a regular under former boss Carlo Ancelotti but there is talk that newly-appointed Real Madrid manager is ready to use Gareth Bale (via the Daily Mail), or Cristiano Ronaldo, in a central striking role (via Daily Mirror), and such a move would potentially leave the Arsenal target’s place in the club’s starting eleven in jeopardy.

Arsenal have been fairly quiet in the summer transfer window with Petr Cech being the only signing the North London side has made thus far.

However, Arsene Wenger has trimmed his attacking options, with Lukas Podolski leaving to join Galatasaray and young forward Yaya Sanogo being loaned out to Ajax.

Karim Benzema has scored a healthy 133 goals in six seasons at Real Madrid and could be the kind of addition who would underpin the Gunners’ title aspirations.
