Emirates Stadium side given green light to sign Bernabeu star.

Arsenal have been given the all clear to make a big-money offer for long-term target Karim Benzema as Real Madrid look to land Man City goal-machine Sergio Aguero as a replacement for the French international according to Spanish source Fichajes.

Arsene Wenger is ready to offer a club record €65m (£46m) to land the 27-year-old striker and could look to complete the deal before the transfer window slams shut.

Real Madrid president has set his sights on luring Aguero into an Etihad Stadium exit and this will leave Benzema in the cold, indeed newly appointed boss Rafa Benitez is already considering the possibility of using either Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo in a central striking role which would therefore restrict the former Lyon man’s first team opportunities.

Benzema has scored 133 goals in six seasons at Real Madrid and would offer Wenger a more prolific spearhead for his Arsenal attack than current first-choice starter Olivier Giroud.

Giroud netted a quality goal against Crystal Palace on Sunday but it’s worth noting it’s the former Montpellier man’s first goal in nine Premier League appearances.
