Aston Villa boss confirms talks with Arsenal over move for outcast Mathieu Debuchy

Aston Villa boss Remi Garde has confirmed that he has held a conversation with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger about a possible deal to sign full-back Mathieu Debuchy on loan, the Daily Star reports.

Speaking at a press conference, Garde was addressing the club’s current injury problems that have seen them lose summer signing Adama Traore for up to 10 weeks with a broken metatarsal (via Star).

But moving onto more positive news, the 49-year-old admitted that Debuchy is on his radar, and that he has already held a conversation with Wenger about a possible move (via Star).

“When I speak to Arsene it’s not as a friend, it’s business,” he said.

“I had a conversation with him a few days ago and Debuchy was among those we talked about.”

With Euro 2016 on the horizon, Debuchy will be looking for regular game time over the coming months to ensure that he books a place in Didier Deschamps’ France squad over the summer.

Debuchy recently stated that he is looking for a short term exit from the Gunners, and admitted that he would be more than willing to remain in the Premier League should a good offer come his way (via Daily Express).

Villa may be sinking fast, but the 29-year-old’s addition would certainly go a long way to shoring up a shaky defence.
