Nicolas Gaitan seems to be linked with a move to Manchester United in every transfer window.
The speculation went quiet in January, so, as if to remind United of his talents, Gaitan produced this sensational bit of skill in Benfica’s Champions League win over Zenit St Petersburg last night.
The Argentine absolutely destroyed Zenit defender Aleksandr Anyukov with this drag-back and flick through the legs. Rumours suggest that the humiliated Russian went home crying.
Anyukov would have been equally upset with the result as Zenit conceded a 91st-minute goal to Goncalves Oliveira to lose the first leg of the last-16 tie 1-0, after Domenico Criscito’s late red card.
Will Man United reignite their interest in Gaitan this summer? Former Benfica teammate Lazar Markovic – now contracted to Liverpool – recently admitted that he expects him to leave Portugal.
The 27-year-old winger has the sort of pace and trickery that the Red Devils have been missing for much of the season, and would reportedly set them back around £25m. Could it finally happen?
