The rumour mill has been rumbling on FC Barcelona full back Gianluca Zambrotta since the start of the season and the will-he-won’t-he saga reached a new peak in the last couple or so weeks when Italian and Catalan press reports went as far to affirm that the Italian World Cup winner will be packing his bags for AC Milan this month.
But the defender himself has come out of the shell and rebuffed such speculation. Goal.com quotes Zambrotta is denying that he has agreed to join any club. Goal.com quotes Zambrotta as saying:
I am a Barcelona player and I will be a Barcelona player until the end of June 2010. Right now I’m not thinking of the possibility of a future away from Barcelona. What happens after that remains to be seen. I’m happy to hear their (Milan’s) interest but they need to go and speak to Barcelona.
Of course Zambrotta isn’t the sot of professional to release a come-and-get-me plea. Yet it is no man’s secret that his wife is unsettled with life in the Catalan capital and maybe Zambrota might have to change his mind for the sake of his family.
