Mascherano: Liverpool will win silverware this season

Liverpool might be fighting for a top four finish in the English Premier League this season(again) but their 23-year old Argentine international midfielder Javier Mascherano is pretty much confident that they can win a silverware this season. Mascherano says that the Reds do have a great chance of lifting the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup this season and insists that this time he wants to bring home a trophy and a gold medal.

Mascherano says:

When you lose any final, it’s painful. But suffering defeat in such a massive game as the Champions League or Copa America last year was really hard to take. Even when I was back in South America I always watched the European Cup games and loved it. It’s the most important title you can win in club football and we were so close to doing it. This time, winning one would be really nice. Hopefully, it will happen this season in the Champions League or FA Cup because I don’t want another silver medal – I prefer gold!

Last season, Rafael Benitez’s side lost 2-1 to AC Milan in the Champions League final and Mascherano also suffered defeat with the Argentine national team as they lost in the Copa America final to Brazil. Although the Champions League might not be something that Liverpool can win this season, they can certainly go for the FA Cup.
