FC Barcelona’s youth team La Masia seems to have become a haven for top quality footballers and in football words spread fast. The likes of Lionel Messi, Bojan and Giovanni Dos Santos might have only just emerged out of an intricate and highly efficient youth system at the Catalan giants but Barca do have yet another gem, namely Gai Assulin.
The 16-year-old midfielder is already an Israeli international and has sparked interest in major English Premier League clubs. The problem is that in Spain, there can be no professional contracts between a club and a player unless the player is 18 years old whereas in England, players can sign professional contracts with their clubs as soon as they turn 16.
Barca therefore are eager to wade off the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City from fishing out Gai and the player’s agent Pini Zahavi says:
Those teams are interesting and we will never say no.
But Gai feels good in Barcelona.
Hopefully this time Barca wouldn’t be duped another Cesc Fabregas!
