Arsenal line up £12 million man as Adey replacement

It looks increasingly likely that Emmanuel Adebayor is going to take the money and run to Barcelona, something which Arsenal can do very little about, as they continue to adhere to their rigid wage structure. Obviously, Adey’s departure might leave the team a bit short of firepower and that’s where Daniel Guiza (diamond to his friends) comes in.

The Daily Mail are reporting that the Real Mallorca striker, who smashed in 27 goals last season, is top of Arsene Wenger’s list (which grows increasingly long if you believe everything you read). The Spaniard came on as a sub against Italy at Euro 2008 and missed a penalty.

Cashed strapped Mallorca, who are a takeover target for former Newcastle chairman Freddie Shepherd, are resigned to losing Guiza, 27, who has a £12m buy-out clause written into his contract and underwent a medical with Fenerbache last week, but the Turkish side are nervous the lack of further developments is down to interest from Arsene Wenger.

Yet another article to be put in the ‘spurious rumours’ file, with the papers now deploying the obvious strategy of picking forward players still left in the tournament and linking them to a top club. It’s a surprise that Russia’s Pavlyuchenko hasn’t been linked with anyone, although perhaps they are saving him for tomorrow’s edition when apparently Chelsea want him as a Drogba replacement.
