Arsenal target David Villa has demanded a January exit from Barcelona and has in turn alerted Arsene Wenger, who is known to be interested in signing the 31 year old striker.

According to the Daily Mail the experienced forward has told boss Tito Vilanova that he wishes to leave the Nou Camp after struggling to cement a regular spot in his starting eleven.

The former Valencia man has never really got going at Barcelona, his career plagued with injuries has also been affected by the signing of Alexis Sanchez and the emergence of young talent like Cristian Tello.

Though Villa has struggled to get going since his £33m move to the Catalan giants he has still scored regularly notching up 42 goals in 98 appearances.

Arsene Wenger could well do with some attacking alternatives with Olivier Giroud hitting a patch of average form, though the Gunners boss has seen Theo Walcott effectively switch from a wide role into a central striking position.
