Wigan are set to return to the familiar South American market and bring Ecuadorian international winger Jefferson Montero to the DW Stadium

Wigan have had huge success with signings from South America including Antonio Valencia, Wilson Palacios and Antolin Alcaraz amongst others and looks set to add the 23-year-old Montero to their purchases, according to the Sunday People.

Montero currently plays for Monarcas Morelia in Mexico, but looks set to arrive in Wigan before the end of the transfer window as manager Roberto Martinez looks to boost his relegation threatened squad.

He had previously played in the Ecuadorian league before moving to Villarreal in Spain and having loan spells at Levante and Real Betis. It was during his time in La Liga that Spaniard Martinez noticed Montero’s talent.

Martinez has already brought in three new faces to aid Wigan’s bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League with Honduran midfielder Roger Espinoza joining, Manchester United striker Angelo Henriquez signing on loan and goalkeeper Joel Robles arriving on loan from Atletico Madrid.
