Misfiring striker could end Stamford Bridge nightmare with move to Italy.
Misfiring Chelsea striker Fernando Torres could be offered a route out of Stamford Bridge by Serie A side Fiorentina.
Spanish international Torres looks set to be sold by Chelsea in the summer, two years after joining the club in a £50million deal from Liverpool. In that time, he has scored just 27 times in 110 appearances.
The 28-year-old forward is expected to be replaced at Stamford Bridge by Colombian hotshot Radamel Falcao and there were suggestions that Torres will be offered to Atletico Madrid as part of the transfer deal. Torres, of course, made his name at Atletico before joining Liverpool.
But, according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Fiorentina are keen to offer Torres the chance to try his luck in Italy with the Serie A side potentially seeking a replacement for Stevan Jovetic, who is likely to leave the club in the summer.
The Montenegro international is wanted by Arsenal and Fiorentina clearly see Torres as ideally suited to the game in Italy. A fresh start may well be what the European Championship and World Cup winner needs after becoming a shadow of his former self at Chelsea over the past two seasons.
