Anfield side keen to lure CSKA Moscow man to Merseyside.
Liverpool are holding talks with CSKA Moscow playmaker Keisuke Honda about a possible summer move to Anfield according to the Metro.
The Merseyside have long been linked with interest in the 26 year old Japanese international and are keen to come to an agreement with the former VVV Venlo midfielder when his contract comes to an end this summer.
Rodgers will approach the goal-scoring playmaker about a possible move to Liverpool now that his club have confirmed the player does not wish to renew his deal with the Russian Premier League side.
‘We tried to extend his contract, but we can’t force him,’ confessed director Roman Babaev.
‘It is up to him what happens next.’
Honda has been a moderate success since his move to Russia back in January 2010, netting 23 goals in 96 appearances for CSKA, helping them to a Russian Cup success in 2010/11.
Liverpool could well do with a goal-scoring presence in their midfield as currently far too much is expected of Luis Suarez. Though Steven Gerrard has been back to somewhere near his best form he is far less advanced than in his pomp, as evidenced by the fact that the England man has failed to reach double figures in the Premier League for the past four seasons.
