Barcelona are considering a summer approach for Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany according to The Mirror.

The Belgian defender has struggled with injuries this season but remains one of the most feared defenders in Europe after guiding City to the Premier League title last season.

Barcelona are set to enter the summer transfer market as they look to bring in defensive reinforcements.

It is reported that the Catalan giants believe the time has finally come to faze Nou Camp legend Carlos Puyol out of the starting eleven.

The La Liga leaders are keen to bring in a defender who can fit in with their style of football and have reportedly targeted Kompany for his vision and distribution with the ball.

There is some hope for Manchester City fans though as Barcelona are only intending to move for Kompany should they
fail to land their number one target, Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels.

The Barcelona hierarchy are believed to be big fans of the German defender but are concerned they may be priced out of a move for the player.

Kompany has been an integral part of the Manchester City side and manager Roberto Mancini will be keen to ensure the club do everything they can to keep hold of the player.
