Player’s father insists no deal in place for move to Nou Camp.
The father of Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels has insisted that no discussions have gone on between the defender and Barcelona according to Marca.
The La Liga giants have been strongly linked with a move for the German defender in recent weeks but the player’s father, Hermann, denied any contact has been made with the Spanish club.
Barcelona are known to be in the market for a new centre back as they look to prepare for life without the ageing Carlos Puyol.
The Catalan side are keen to bring in a defender capable of adapting to the team’s passing brand of football and have reportedly identified Hummels as the perfect heir to Puyol’s throne.
Dortmund are thought to be keen to hang on to the player though and will demand a significant transfer outlay to allow the defender to leave the Bundesliga club.
That has prompted Barcelona to consider alternative options in case they find themselves priced out of a move. The likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Vincent Kompany, Marquinhos and Jan Vertonghen have all found themselves linked to the Catalan giants in recent weeks.
Hummels’ father insisted that nothing had been agreed yet but he firmly believed his son would one day be playing for one of the world’s top sides.
