Manchester United are preparing summer bids for three of Porto’s players according to Tutto Mercato Web.

Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to strengthen is squad for next season in anticipation of some big summer spending from their rivals Manchester City.

Fergie has reportedly identified the Porto trio as his top summer targets and is continuing to monitor their progress ahead of a summer approach.

First on the United boss’ list is Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez. The player is rapidly becoming one of the hottest properties in Europe following some impressive displays for the Portuguese club. Ferguson is keen to bring in some more options out wide with Nani looking set to leave the club and Ashley Young and Tony Valencia having poor seasons.

United are also set to make a move for 22 year old Eliaquim Mangala. Ferguson is keen to bring in a young defender as he prepares for life without defensive pairing Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, who are both entering the autumn of their careers.

Finally the club are also considering a move for left-back Alex Sandro. The Brazilian defender has been highly impressive for the club since joining in 2011 and is thought to be available for a fee in the region of £7.5 million. Ferguson is looking for a long term replacement Patrice Evra and remains unconvinced by summer signing Alexander Buttner.
